Tracerco is proud to introduce Marcie, one of the newest members of our engineering team, whose creativity, curiosity, and hands-on expertise are already making a mark. Though she’s only been with us for a matter of months, Marcie’s journey and approach to design engineering reflect the spirit of innovation and collaboration that defines Tracerco.

Marcie - 02

Marcie’s career path is anything but ordinary. After completing her A Levels at Ripon Grammar School, she pursued an HNC/HND in Mechatronic Engineering at Darlington College, a course that covered all six core engineering disciplines. This broad foundation gave her the versatility to work across industries, including bespoke food production and engineering companies, where she helped develop high-quality, low-volume products with a strong focus on innovation.

Her standout achievement? Winning an Innovation and Engineering Award in 2015 for designing a cake-decorating robot by integrating 3D surface mapping with the robotic code. “It was a great example of how engineering can be both precise and playful,” Marcie says. “It taught me that creativity is just as important as technical skill.”

At Tracerco, Marcie’s role involves researching and developing new products, building 3D concept models, and using rapid prototyping techniques with advanced 3D printing technologies. “People often think engineering is all about maths and formulas,” she explains, “but imagination is absolutely essential. Sometimes, you’re creating something that’s never existed before, and there’s no manual for that. You have to be inventive, resourceful, and willing to explore the unknown.”

Her favourite part of the job is solving product-focused challenges, figuring out how to turn a concept into something tangible and functional. “It’s incredibly rewarding to take an idea and work through the process of making it real. That’s where the magic happens.”

Marcie’s skills, problem-solving, curiosity, resourcefulness, and a solid grounding in maths, are central to her success. But it’s her mindset that truly sets her apart. “There are no stupid questions in engineering,” she says. “The key is being inquisitive and determined to find the answers. That’s how innovation happens.”

Outside of work, Marcie’s hobbies reflect her love of mechanics and adventure. A self-confessed petrolhead, she runs a Mk 2 MX-5 and restored a 1995 Audi A6 she found abandoned in a farmer’s field. “It was just a rusted shell when I got it,” she laughs, “but I brought it back to life piece by piece.” She’s also passionate about bouldering, climbing without ropes or harnesses, which she says sharpens her focus and problem-solving skills in a completely different way.

Despite being new to Tracerco, Marcie already feels at home. One of her favourite memories so far is a team bike ride to Seaton Carew. “It was a brilliant way to connect with colleagues outside of work and feel part of a supportive, welcoming team. That sense of community really matters.”
